THE HOBBIT: |
Date: 12th June, 2014 The full playfield artwork for Jersey Jack Pinball's upcoming The Hobbit game has been revealed for the first time. Sections were shown at last weekend's NW Pinball & Arcade Show in Tacoma with the promise that Jack would show individuals more if they saw him at the show, but now the whole of the playfield artwork is available to everyone.
The artwork was created by Jean-Paul De Win who produced the LCD animations for The Wizard of Oz and has extended his area of responsibility for The Hobbit to include the playfield. The playfield layout schematic has also been updated and as you can see there have been a number of changes.
The progress indicators above the flippers have completely changed, with the appearance of L-O-C-K inserts or rollover buttons. The upper left flipper has been replaced by a third slingshot kicker, and the game appears to have acquired a static centre post in place of the larger pop-up post seen previously. The positions of the two upper pop-up targets have changed slightly, while character names have been given to various inserts, targets and switches. Check out the larger version of the image above to see all the names. Combining the two gives a better view of how the features and artwork are tied together.
In other news, David Thiel is now in charge of the sounds and music in The Hobbit, as well as a number of future games as part of a multi-game deal with Jersey Jack Pinball.
At the NW Pinball & Arcade Show Jack announced that test games are expected to go out on test in September, with production games rolling off the line in December.
