THE FIFTH ESTATE

Report by John

In September 2013, my wife and I had our first trip to the east coast of the USA (New York City and Orlando), and to Canada (Vancouver).

After leaving the Commonwealth Bar in Brooklyn, we proceeded to The Fifth Estate bar. We arrived at The Fifth Estate at around 7pm, and there were only a few guests.

The most attractive thing there was the live band playing. Guests could enjoy live music while having drinks with friends.   Of course, I ordered a drink before playing any pinball.

The bar had the following four pinballs:

  • The Lord of the Rings (Stern, 2003)
  • Funhouse (Williams, 1990)
  • No Fear (Williams, 1995)
  • Scared Stiff (Bally, 1995)

Apart from four pinballs, there was also a fun video game – a Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga table-top combo. Pac-Man was my favourite game when I was a high school student.

This bar is a good place for drinks and relaxation.  However, the surrounding light was not bright enough to play the pinballs, so I sometimes lost track of the ball when it was moving too fast on the playfield.

I stayed at the bar for an hour and then proceed to my final pinball location in NY city, the Skylark bar.
