TAZMANIA BALLROOM |
Location: 1st Floor, LFK Tower, 33 Wyndham Street, Central, Hong Kong Report by John In early November 2013, I located a pub called Tazmania Ballroom which I thought would probably have a pinball. Based on a photo on their website, it should have had a Williams Star Trek - The Next Generation pinball. It was looking like it would be a very exciting discovery for me. I had only seen this pinball once before, at the Japan Game Museum.
On a weekday in mid-November, my wife and I visited this pub in an expectant mood. We arrived there around 5pm and it seemed we were the first guests, while the staff were still busy preparing to open.
The first thing to grab my attention was of course the pinball located in the corner. I was a little bit disappointed to find it was just a AC/DC pin, and not the William's Star Trek from the website. (/_\)
Initially, I guessed this pinball might have been moved from American Pool. Subsequently though I felt this must be a different one, since the condition of this pin was only in acceptable condition while the one in American Pool was always kept in an excellent condition. Later, I confirmed it was a different machine with the Hong Kong pinball operator. I found an amazing card in the lower left-hand corner of the playfield; it states it is "Amanda's toy". I wonder who Amanda is?
Although it cost HKD10 for a game of 3 balls (which is quite expensive compared to the pinballs in American Pool), the replay score was set to only 5,000,000. As a result, it was not difficult to get a replay or two.
As usual, it was 2-for-1 during the happy hour which ran from 5-8pm every day. In addition, there were also free canapés and a dim sum buffet from Monday to Thursday. It was extremely good value for money!
We finished our drinks and dinner (i.e. canapés and dim sum) and left around 6:30pm. I will probably go there again in December this year. (^o^) Here's some additional information about the Tazmania Ballroom:
