THE WIZARD OF OZ:
MORE DETAILS

Date: 19th September, 2011

The latest information about their upcoming The Wizard of Oz released by Jersey Jack Pinball shows part of their input/output (I/O) board and a look at the State Fair Balloon bumper cap.

The board image shows a section of the third prototype I/O board which is the final prototype produced before full manufacturing begins.

The design eschews the use of surface mount components in favour of more traditional through-hole versions, which should make replacement and troubleshooting easier.  All the ICs in this image are socketed for easy replacement, although board designer John Dondzila said that the choice of which socket type to use had not yet been made.

The board's design looks quite conventional and conservative, but of course this is only a section from one of the games three boards, so innovative features are more likely to be found on the CPU and display/sound boards.

Jersey Jack Pinball say they are only showing a part of the board's design to safeguard certain proprietary elements; "It has features that are covered under pending patents and because of the sensitivity of what it is, we will only show a small portion of it at this time."

Warranty on the boards will be for one year (compared to the ninety days offered elsewhere) from purchase.

The second picture brings us Matt Riesterer's design for the State Fair Balloon pop bumper positioned at the bottom of the playfield in the left outlane.  It is shown here alongside an image taken from the movie as a comparison.

Matt is also shown with the latest iteration of his Trumper Bumper trees which will sit on the main pop bumpers on the centre-left of the playfield.
